  • What is Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council?

Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council provides an opportunity for young people aged 12 to 18 years (as of January 2027) to have a voice in their community and help make Hindmarsh Shire a better place to live, learn and grow.

Youth Councillors meet monthly to discuss issues that matter to young people across the Shire, share ideas, and help plan events, programs and activities for local youth. They also have the opportunity to provide advice and feedback to Hindmarsh Shire Council on matters that affect young people in their communities.

The Youth Council is led by young people, for young people. With support from Hindmarsh Shire Council and Council staff, Youth Councillors help deliver a range of events and initiatives, including pool parties, live music events, movie nights and other activities that bring young people together.

Youth Councillors may also work on projects that raise awareness of important issues such as mental health and wellbeing, climate change, diversity, inclusion and equality. Through their involvement, members can develop leadership skills, build confidence, make new connections and create positive change within their communities.
