Please share your feedback about your experience with the GEARUP program.
  • Dear Parent or Guardian,

Your student is part of an exciting opportunity through GEAR UP Promise Zone (GUPZ), a federally funded college and career readiness program administered by Appalachian Educational Service Agency/Partners for Rural Impact.

GUPZ works with students in grades 6-12 to help them prepare for success in school, after high school, and throughout their careers. Our goal is to ensure every student has the knowledge, skills, and support needed to pursue the future they choose, whether that includes college, technical training, military service, apprenticeships, or entering the workforce.

Throughout the school year, GUPZ staff will work alongside students, families, and schools to provide opportunities that support academic achievement, career exploration, and postsecondary planning. Services may include:

    • College and career exploration activities
    • Academic support and skill-building opportunities
    • College campus visits and career-focused experiences
    • Financial aid and scholarship information
    • Workforce readiness and employability skills development
    • Postsecondary planning and goal setting
    • Family engagement events and resources

As students move through middle and high school, we also partner with families to help navigate important decisions and milestones. We will provide information and resources related to:
    • College and career pathways
    • Postsecondary education and training opportunities
    • Financial aid, scholarships, and paying for education after high school
    • Workforce and career opportunities
    • Planning for life after graduation

The GUPZ program is provided at no cost to students or families. We encourage you to connect with your school's GUPZ staff whenever you have questions or need assistance. We are committed to helping students and families prepare for a successful future.

We look forward to partnering with you throughout your student's educational journey.

    Estimado padre/madre o tutor,

    Atentamente,

  • CONSENT FOR GEAR UP PARENT AND STUDENT SURVEYS

  • Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

As part of your school's GEAR UP Promise Zone program, we carry out parent and student surveys each year. Student surveys are implemented in the classroom in the Spring or Fall. Parent surveys are sent home at the beginning of each school year. The surveys ask about going to college. Both surveys are very brief and will take 1-2 minutes to complete. The survey is given to all parents, and to all students in 6th - 12th grades. The surveys are voluntary for you and your student and will be used to evaluate our progress. If you want your student to take the survey fill out the information at the bottom of the page. If you or your student do not take part, it will have no effect on the services your student receives. We do not think any risks are involved in taking part in the surveys. There are no specific benefits to you or your student for taking part in this survey. We hope to learn more about how to help students stay in school and go to college. This information can help other families and students later. Your privacy will be protected. Your and your students' name will not be used in any report that is published. All surveys will be stored in a locked file cabinet and will be destroyed when the project is over. If surveys are administered electronically, all precautions will be taken to secure privacy. The information collected from this study will not be used or distributed for future research studies.

If you have questions about the surveys please contact Christian Callihan, GEAR UP Promise Zone Director at Christian.Callihan@partnersrural.org. If you have questions about your or your student's rights as a research participant, you may contact the Sterling Institutional Review Board Regulatory Department, at telephone number 1-888-636-1062 (toll free) or info@sterlingirb.com.

Please sign below to confirm your understanding and acknowledge that you consent to participate in the parent survey.

    Estimado(s) padre/madre/tutor(es):

Callihan@partnersrural.org.
