What You Will Learn
You do not need any technical background. The session is about what to ask, what to record and when to refer a boat to a specialist, not about becoming an electrician.More and more of the boats you list now have lithium batteries on board. Some were fitted by the builder. Many have been added since, sometimes by a professional installer, sometimes by the owner over a weekend with parts from an online marketplace.
From the outside you cannot tell which is which. Yet the difference affects how you describe the boat, what paperwork the buyer is entitled to expect, and what could happen in your yard over the winter.
That is why ABYA has arranged a webinar, designed specifically for brokers and yacht agents, with marine technical consultant Ross Wombwell. Ross is a national expert on lithium battery standards for small craft and has worked with various organisations to support the safe uptake of this technology for the marine industry.
What you will learn:
- Recognise: how to identify a lithium installation and its chemistry, and why "it's LiFePO4, so it's safe" is not the full story.
- Ask: the paperwork you should expect for a lithium installation, and the red flags when it is missing.
- Regulation: why a lithium retrofit on apost-1998 boat is treated as a major craft conversion, what that means for a sale, and why a BSS certificate is not evidence of a safe lithium installation on an inland boat.
- Inspect: a look-only walk-through of what to check, and what never to touch.
- Store: safe storage, charging and lay-up, and who is responsible while a boat is on your books.
- Sell: how to describe it accurately in your particulars. You do not need any technical background. The session is about what to ask, what to record and when to refer a boat to a specialist, not about becoming an electrician
