Daughters Beyond Incarceration Policy Program Application

DBI's Policy Fellowship is a 24-week fellowship where girls who have been affected by parental incarceration will learn about various topics surrounding civic engagement, including Know Your Rights, criminal justice, and legislative processes. The overall goal is to write and/or support the passing of a new piece of legislation that improves the quality of life for children with incarcerated parents. Participants will also travel and participate in special projects to raise awareness on ways to create a safe space for children impacted by incarceration within their communities.
The participant must meet these qualifications before applying:
- Girl, between the ages of fourteen to eighteen
- Live in the city of New Orleans and attend an Orleans Parish High School
- Or live in the City of Baton Rouge and attend an East Baton Rouge Parish High School
- Must be passionate about advocating for children’s rights and needs of incarcerated parents
- Exceptional team player with a solid ability to contribute positively to a team environment
- Provide proof/verification of current for formerly parental incarceration (within reason)
- We encourage everyone to apply regardless of academic ability/performance
This is a weekday program. Participants meet after school at least three times a week. Some classes are virtual, and some classes are in person.
