Certification Review Process

Thank you for your interest in becoming an Eth Certified restaurant! Each application is thoughtfully reviewed by The Eth Collective to ensure alignment with our six certification standards. Submission of an application does not guarantee certification. The Eth Seal is awarded to restaurants that demonstrate a genuine commitment to food ethics, animal stewardship, and transparency.

Section 1: Entirely Vegan Menu Confirm that your entire menu is 100% vegan. Our Standard: The restaurant must offer an entirely vegan menu, including all food and beverages. No animal-derived ingredients may be used, including meat, seafood, dairy, eggs, honey, gelatin, or other animal products. ConfirmationI confirm that all food and beverages offered by our restaurant are vegan and contain no animal-derived ingredients. No additional written explanation is required. Your current menu will be reviewed as part of the application.
Section 2: Ingredient Integrity Our Standard: Restaurants must take reasonable steps to verify that their ingredients are vegan, including packaged products, sauces, additives, and ingredients obtained from suppliers. They must also maintain preparation procedures that minimize/eliminate unintended contact with animal-derived ingredients and accurately communicate relevant preparation practices.

Section 3: Animal Stewardship Our Standard: Restaurants must demonstrate respect for animals through their food offerings and business practices. This includes avoiding the promotion of animal exploitation and making thoughtful choices that reflect a commitment to animal welfare and compassionate treatment. Confirm that your practices promote respect for animals and avoid all animal exploitation.
Beyond offering an entirely vegan menu, how does your restaurant incorporate respect for animals into its business practices? Please share any relevant policies, partnerships, purchasing decisions, or initiatives.
Section 4: Environmental Responsibility Our Standard: Restaurants must demonstrate meaningful efforts to reduce their environmental impact through practical measures such as minimizing food waste, reducing unnecessary packaging, and conserving water and energy. We recognize that environmental responsibility is an ongoing process and value demonstrated commitment and continuous improvement.
What specific steps does your restaurant take to reduce its environmental impact? Examples may include food waste reduction, composting, reusable or recyclable packaging, responsible purchasing, and energy or water conservation.
Section 5: Transparency Our Standard: Restaurants must communicate honestly and accurately about their ingredients, sourcing, preparation practices, and environmental or ethical commitments. Claims made to customers must be truthful, specific, and supported by available information.
How does your restaurant ensure transparency with customers? Please describe how you communicate ingredient information, sourcing practices, preparation methods, and any environmental or ethical claims.
Section 6: Ongoing Accountability Our Standard: Certification represents an ongoing commitment rather than a one-time achievement. Certified restaurants must maintain the certification standards, promptly report material changes to their menus, sourcing, or practices, and participate in an annual renewal process. Restaurants must also cooperate with reasonable requests for updated information or documentation.
