Dear APGS School Community,
We would like to warmly invite you to the 2026 Junior Play.
Stories in the Dark written by Debra Oswald
Written and first performed in 2007.
Short summary: A terrified 12-year-old boy finds himself separated from his family in a war-torn city and takes refuge in a bombed-out house. There he meets Anna, an older, street-smart girl. To calm his fear and get them both through the night, she begins telling him half-remembered folk tales of ogres, princes, singing bones and wolf-mothers. The play explores the power of storytelling, blending the magic of folk tales with the harsh realities of conflict and survival.
Director's note: "In the chaos of a war-torn city, two young strangers come to together and cling to the only thing that can still make sense of the crumbling world around them: stories. Debra Oswald’s Stories in the Dark weaves the hard reality of conflict with the luminous world of folk tale, showing us how imagination can protect, connect and heal. It is a privilege to develop this play with the junior drama students of APGS and bring this powerful work to life, reminding us all that even in the darkest moments, stories continue to light the way."
