The Untitled Space announces an international open call for WILD AT HEART, the first official volume of its annual WOMEN IN ART hardcover editions. The publication will be celebrated with a gallery exhibition and book launch at The Untitled Space in Tribeca, New York. Contemporary women-identifying artists worldwide are invited to submit artwork for the collectible art book and accompanying exhibition, which will also be presented online on Artsy and Artnet, launching in March 2027 for Women's History Month.
The inaugural edition will bring together approximately 50 selected artists in a 200-page hardcover, with every artist featured across a minimum of two pages. The book launches in March 2027 for Women's History Month, alongside a three-month online exhibition on Artsy and Artnet.
WOMEN IN ART establishes an annual hardcover series dedicated to artistic discovery and the documentation of women's contributions to contemporary art. Each volume explores a distinct theme, pairing substantial visual presentations with artist profiles, statements, and exclusive interviews. The inaugural edition invites artists to interpret WILD AT HEART through their own experiences, environments, and creative practices.
WILD AT HEART
WILD AT HEART explores instinct, emotion, freedom, and the connections between our inner lives and the world around us. Love, desire, curiosity, vulnerability, rebellion, and the impulse to create can all offer points of departure. The theme welcomes personal, social, environmental, abstract, and experimental interpretations.
For centuries, women have been told to be quiet, to be tame, to be cultivated and contained: to soften their voices, temper their desires, and keep their ambitions within acceptable bounds. WILD AT HEART is an invitation to reclaim what was never meant to be domesticated. It celebrates the instinct that cannot be trained out, the voice that refuses to be lowered, and the imagination that grows in every direction at once. To be wild at heart is to live, and to create, on one's own terms.
The wild lives within us. It is the pull of desire and the ache of longing, the fierce tenderness of love, and the courage it takes to reveal what has long been hidden. It is the divine feminine, the wild goddess within us all: ancient and untamed, worshipped and feared, silenced and forever reborn. And it is the wild we confront. The cycles of nature echo in our own bodies, through seasons of bloom, decay, and renewal, while the environments we inhabit and the world we navigate as women today leave their mark on who we are and what we make. Between the wilderness within and the world around us, artists may explore the intimacies that shape them, the forces that test them, and the instinct that endures. Nature, the body, and the self may appear as subject, material, process, or metaphor.
WILD AT HEART also speaks to creative independence: the freedom to experiment, follow an obsession, challenge expectations, and develop a visual language of one's own. Questions of autonomy, visibility, desire, and self-expression may inform the work, as may a fascination with color, material, movement, or an unexpected encounter.
The theme is open to figurative, abstract, conceptual, and experimental work. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme expansively.
Wildness is not something to be tamed. It is where freedom begins...
