    • Domesticated cats must be brought in a hard-sided carrier.

    • Your pet may be picked up no later than 6PM the day of surgery, unless otherwise notified that your pet is being discharged at an earlier time.
    • Pets not picked up on the day of surgery will be charged a daily boarding fee of $25, reported to the authorities as abandoned after 24 hours, and clinic personnel will not be present to monitor the animal's health overnight.
  • PREPARING FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • Pre-Anesthetic Blood Testing:

  • Prior to undergoing anesthesia, a brief physical examination will be conducted on your pet. Please note that Kahla Memorial Clinic does not offer pre-operative diagnostic testing, including routine pre-anesthetic blood work. However, we strongly recommend completing pre-anesthetic blood work prior to any surgical procedure. Because a physical exam alone may not reveal hidden health issues, pre-operative testing can significantly minimize surgical risks and help identify underlying conditions that may require future treatment. If you would like to have pre-anesthetic blood work performed, please schedule an appointment with your primary veterinarian and bring a physical copy of the test results with you on the day of your scheduled procedure at our clinic.

  • Prior to Surgery:

  • Pets must be kept indoors or confined the night before your appointment to ensure that they have not eaten prior to surgery, which could potentially be dangerous and result in complications during the procedure. Your pet is NOT allowed food after 8pm the night before surgery, but is permitted to have access to drinking water only.

  • Dogs and cats that are at a higher risk of disease exposure (animal shelters, boarding facilities, day care, dog parks, etc.) should have received at least their core vaccinations, as follows:

    • Cats: Rabies, Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR), Feline Calicivirus (FCP), Feline Panleukopenia (FPV), and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), some of which are often given as a combined FVRCP vaccine.
    • Dogs: Rabies, Canine Distemper Virus (CDV), Canine Parvovirus (CPV), Canine Adenovirus (CAV-2 / Hepatitis), and Leptospirosis (Leptospira), some of which are often given as a combined DHPP or DA2PP vaccine.
  • Loving Hearts Animal Society Kahla Memorial Clinic maintains the highest levels of cleanliness and disinfects all surfaces between patients; however, we cannot guarantee that your pet will not be exposed to contagious diseases. Therefore, we strongly recommend that all pets visiting our clinic be current on their core and non-core vaccinations. It is important to also understand that no vaccine is 100% effective.
  • In addition, we recommend pets be regularly protected from fleas with a topical or oral preventative. If live fleas are seen on your pet the day of your appointment, clinic staff will be required to administer a fast-acting oral flea treatment (Capstar) prior to surgery, and an additional charge of $10 will be due upon pick-up and discharge.
  • After Surgery:

  • The post-operative period is important for the healing process of your pet's surgical procedure. You will be provided with recovery instructions at the time of discharge; however, please be prepared to keep your pet calm and quiet for about 10-14 days after surgery. No bathing, no running or jumping. Leash walks only for dogs. A cone collar is strongly recommended after surgery and is available upon request when scheduling your appointment for an additional fee of $15.00.
  • Financial Responsibility:

  • When scheduling a spay/neuter appointment, you will be required to pay for all anticipated services at the time the appointment is made. If for any reason you are unable to keep your appointment, it may be rescheduled without penalty if notice is given at least 7 days in advance of your appointment date. No-shows or same-day cancellations will incur a $45 penalty fee, which will be deducted from any requested refunds or fees paid and remaining that are applied to a future appointment.
  • Any incidental charges for unexpected services, such as flea treatment, termination spay, cryptorchid procedure, or emergency resuscitation must be paid in full at the time your pet is discharged and picked up. Payment may be made by debit/credit card or cash only. Checks will not be accepted. Clinic staff will advise you if there are any outstanding incidental charges when notifying you of your pet's pick-up time and discharge.
  • If you do not retrieve your pet(s) at the agreed upon time of discharge, you will be charged a boarding fee of no less than $25 per night. If your pet is not claimed within 24 hours of its discharge, Loving Hearts Animal Society will assume your pet has been abandoned and you will be reported to the authorities to begin legal proceedings to terminate your ownership rights so that your pet can be placed for adoption. You will remain responsible for any unpaid services and boarding costs, including possible legal fees should litigation become necessary to pursue payment of services rendered.
  • Clinic personnel will not be present to monitor an unclaimed animal's health overnight and Loving Hearts Animal Society, Kahla Memorial Clinic, its veterinarians, staff, volunteers, directors and/or agents will not be responsible if an unclaimed pet becomes lost or missing, suffers injury, illness or death, or for any liability, claims, or damages arising from the animal's behavior, while it remains intentionally or unintentionally in our unsolicited care/custody.
