JOB ANNOUNCEMENT – YOUTH ORGANIZER (FULL-TIME)
The MinKwon Center for Community Action invites applications for a Youth Organizer (full-time). The Youth Organizer will coordinate and lead our youth organizing and education efforts to empower local Asian American high school youth and college students/young adults.
Organization History & Mission
The MinKwon Center for Community Action was established in 1984 as the Young Korean American Service & Education Center (YKASEC) to meet the needs and concerns of the Korean American community. Since our founding, we have made a profound presence through various grassroots organizing, education, and advocacy initiatives that address important community issues, including immigration policies, voter rights, and cultural awareness. The MinKwon Center places a special emphasis on meeting the needs of our marginalized community members, including youth, elderly, recent immigrants, low-income residents, and limited-English-proficient residents.
Job Description
The MinKwon Center views young people as potential leaders, both now and in the future. Our youth organizing and education programs provide the opportunity for local Korean and Asian American high school youth and college students/young adults to become future leaders for the community by educating them on critical issues and providing them opportunities to advocate for themselves on these issues. Through our work, we hope to raise a generation of socially conscious individuals that understand the importance of community engagement and civic involvement. The Organizer would have the following specific responsibilities:
- Help plan, coordinate, and facilitate regular meetings with youth and college students/young adults;
- Help conduct educational activities and workshops for youth to inform them of issues impacting immigrant youth and college student/young adult communities, including the Korean American community;
- Participate in community organizing efforts to build base of youth and college students/young adults;
- Work closely with Advocacy and Organizing team to plan, develop and strengthen existing and new campaigns;
- Engage in advocacy efforts on behalf of youth, young adults, immigrants, and low-income community members.
Job Requirements
Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of the following:
- Strong interest in social justice issues;
- Desire to empower the Asian American community;
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
- Strong organizational skills and independence, requiring minimal supervision;
- Experience in working with youth (strongly preferred);
- Korean-language skills (preferred).
