• Jesus on Prayer - Day 10
Forgive us our Debts
  • Matthew 6:9

    Pray then like this:

    "Our Father in heaven,

    hallowed by your name.

    Your kingdom come

Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors."

  • What do you owe God?

  • Failure to give God what we owe puts us in debt with Him. For what are you currently in God’s debt?

  • Jesus on Prayer - Day 10
Forgive us our Debts
  • and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

  • How do we get out of debt with God?

  • What does this request say about our need for regular forgiveness?

  • What does this request say about God's willingness to forgive?

  • Jesus on Prayer - Day 10
Forgive us our Debts
  • and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

  • What is the connection between God’s forgiveness of us and our forgiveness of others? Consider also these words which immediately follow the Lord’s Prayer:

  • Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

  • What debt are you currently finding difficult to forgive?

  • Spend a few minutes praying through the first five requests of the Lord’s Prayer.

  • Jesus on Prayer - Day 10
Forgive us our Debts
  • In this meditation we have seen that Jesus calls us to pray regularly for God's forgiveness. This experience of being forgiven ought to overflow in our willingness to forgive others.

In the next meditation, we will look at the sixth and final petition of the Lord's Prayer.

Until then may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
