CCNMA: Latino Journalists of California
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
Since 1976, CCNMA has awarded more than $800,000 in scholarships to more than 800 Latino students pursuing careers in journalism.
Key Details
Who Can Apply: Latino high school seniors, undergraduate or graduate students who reside in California and show a clear commitment to journalism.
Students can attend universities in California or out-of-state educational institutions.
Award Amount: Generally ranges from $500 to $2,000 per recipient.
Requirements: Full-time enrollment, good academic standing, and demonstrated financial need.
Open enrollment is Sept. 21, 2026
To qualify for a scholarship, please submit the following materials:
- Resume
- Current school transcripts
- Journalism Work Samples of broadcast, photography, radio, print, or podcasts relevant to your area of emphasis.
- A 500-word essay on one of the following topics:
Personal statement about your background.
- What motivated you to become a journalist?
- What impact do you hope to have as a journalist?
- One letter of recommendation is required from an internship supervisor, or if in high school, a teacher or journalism advisor. The letter must be submitted as a PDF, NOT in a sealed envelope.
