PRINTERS ROW MEMBERSHIP – Volunteer in the Printers Row Lounge or Welcome Center. This is a great job for people who are passionate about their Printers Row memberships. Responsibilities include educating festival-goers about the benefits of Printers Row and assisting fellow members in obtaining passes for special event access.
AUTHOR ESCORT – Your job is to be a friendly and professional escort to the Fest's Author attendees. You will be meeting the Author upon check in, walking the Author to their program venue, helping with the signing and selling of their books, and answering questions as needed.
FLOATER – The ultimate helper, you will be needed to fill in with author programming, author signings, volunteer check in, etc. You’ll be asked to jump in at any time doing almost anything, so read up on all of the jobs listed here.
GOOD EATING TENT SUPPORT – Your job is to help hand out Good Eating Special Sections, and to help out with the signing and selling of books. Other duties include overseeing backstage/prep area for Good Eating stage, assisting chefs with prepping and light dishwashing, setting up demo tables before each program, and serving as liaison between program hosts and chefs.
GREETER – This is your chance to be a friendly, outgoing volunteer that is not shy to speak up and say, "Can I Help You?!" You will be welcoming people, directing attendees to the various programming rooms, helping answer questions about author check-in, volunteer check-in and scheduling questions.
KIDS' CORNER VOLUNTEERS – Get ready to have a blast with kids! You may be asked to read to kids, do coloring, play games, face paint, and help assist with the overall programming in the kids' area. There will also be a chance to appear as a Costume Character and a helper/greeter! A couple of volunteers will also be asked to help out with Signing and Selling in this area.
OPERATIONAL SUPPORT – You’ll be working on the bird's-eye view of the Fest. We hope you are ready to be the strong, motivated volunteer we need to replenish supplies, make deliveries, and help manage the overall Fest. Bring your best golf cart driving skills and be prepared to help out with everything behind the scenes.
SIGNING AND SELLING SUPPORT – You will assist in making the book selling and autographing process run as smoothly as possible. Help keep lines under control, make friendly conversation, keep the line moving quickly and write "sign requests."
TICKET COLLECTOR – Your job will be to collect tickets at the Harold Washington Public Library. You will also welcome and greet visitors, authors and VIP guests and assist and fill in at the venue when necessary.
TICKET COORDINATOR – You will be working the lines of guests at the Harold Washington Library! Your job will be to check tickets, check in and escort VIP ticket holders, keep the lines moving, and be a friendly and helpful guide if people have questions. The goal is to keep people patient, not budging, etc.
VENUE COORDINATOR – You are in charge of programming rooms. You will prepare and make sure microphones are working properly, get water for authors or program hosts. Before the program starts you will stand up and give an introduction of an author or program. Scripts will be sent to you ahead of time. You will also troubleshoot at the venue as needed and will be handling multiple things at once. You report to the Venue Manager.
