"An Honour for Contributions to Canadian Mountaineering"

Honorary Membership was instituted in 1906 at the first meeting of the Club. The current form of this award is a special pin accompanied by a brass on wood plaque. This honorary award is the highest recognition The Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) offers for contributions to Canadian mountaineering and includes a life membership in the ACC.

Honorary Membership is presented to individuals with a strong and sustained commitment to the Canadian mountain environment and Canadian mountaineering. They will have given outstanding service to the Canadian climbing community, either on a voluntary basis or exceeding the value of their remuneration, in the following areas:

a) The advancement of Canadian mountaineering, through exceptional activities in the Canadian mountain environment;

b) The promotion of mountain activities in Canada; and

c)The advancement of the goals and ideals of the ACC, as they are described in the Club's Constitution (available on the ACC website).

A nomination for Honorary Membership is made by any ACC member, on this nomination form no later than December 31^st of each year. The names of prospective recipients are presented to the Board of Directors prior to the Club's Annual General Meeting. Successful nominees must have approval of three-quarters of the voting members of the Board. Recipients receive their awards at the AGM or in some other suitable manner.
