• Elections for ACM Exec 2015

  • Thanks for your interest in ACM Exec! It's going to be a fun year. Please nominate yourself or your friends below. If you are nominating multiple people, fill out this form for each person.

    Details on Positions

    • President: The president leads the vision of ACM throughout the year and will be the face of ACM for 2015.  This includes communicating with the department, other student groups, and industry, as well as running meetings and making sure the organization is operating efficiently.  Note: Our bylaws require that you must have already served on ACM leadership for at least 3 months prior to running for president.
    • Treasurer: The treasurer ensures that ACM remains financially solvent. The treasurer files all the paperwork required to fund our programs and events.  Note: Our bylaws require that you must have already served on ACM leadership for at least 3 months prior to running for treasurer.
    • Historian: The historian is in charge of the organization of ACM Exec. The historian writes the weekly email and takes notes at meetings. Other groups call it the "secretary."
    • Technology Director: The technology director maintains the ACM web site and computer systems, including Project Matching and the ACM Showcase. The technology director is also in charge of maintaining the computers in the ACM Lounge.
    • Community Area Manager: The community area manager is essentially the person in charge of the ACM Lounge. Responsibilities include scheduling ACM Office Hours, maintaining ACM's library collection, enforcing a code of conduct, and tending to housekeeping items such as restocking snacks and beverages.
    • Publicity Director: The publicity director ensures that the WUSTL community knows what ACM is up to and helps to grow the ACM membership. This includes designing and printing flyers, maintaining the official ACM events calendar, and publicizing ACM on social media.
    • Event Manager: The event manager delegates the logistics for ACM’s events and ensures that all responsibilities are carried out. This includes things like ordering food, working with speakers to schedule events, taking attendance, making room reservations, and so forth.
    • Programming Competitions Chair: The programming competitions chair prepares ACM members for competitive problem solving. This includes running practice competitions and handling the logistics to bring teams to the ICPC in the fall.  The Programming Competitions Chair will be appointed via a short application process (rather than in the election), but you can still fill out this form if you are interested.

    We are hoping to elect three different Event Managers and two different Publicity Directors! There are plenty of ways for you to get involved.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What are the responsibilities and time commitment like? How long is the term?

    The term will be for the calendar year of 2015, starting on January 1 and ending on December 31. You will be expected to attend a weekly ACM Exec meeting as well as carry out the responsibilities associated with your position. Most exec members say they spend 3-4 hours per week on ACM.

    Am I qualified to run for any position?

    In order to be nominated for president or treasurer, our bylaws require that you have served on ACM Exec for at least three months. Other than that, you should be qualified to run for any other position.

    I am graduating in May. Can I still run?

    Yes, you are welcome to run for a position even if you are graduating in May. After you graduate, the rest of ACM Exec will be appoint someone to serve your role for the fall semester.

    Am I allowed to nominate someone else?

    Yes! However, the person you nominate must be present at ACM elections, and they must accept your nomination.

    Why run for ACM Exec?

    You get to be part of one of the largest and most active groups on campus. You get to develop your leadership skills. You get the opportunity to leave a lasting impact at WashU.

  • I am aware that the elected candidates will be expected to serve on ACM Exec for the calendar year of 2015.  The candidate I am nominating has attended an ACM event or has used an ACM resource this semester.  The candidate I am nominating will be attending ACM Elections on Monday, December 8 or will email acm@wustl.edu if there is an unavoidable conflict.  I have taken the time to read the descriptions of each of the positions and understand what the responsibilities entail.
