Whether you are familiar with the political process or want to learn more about successfully advocating for fair laws, February 22 is the day you should be on Capitol Hill. We’ll take you through the process step by step.

The NAACP will join with African American Legislators and Wells Fargo to Celebrate Black History at the Capitol. Enjoy speaker’s performers, vendors and civil rights information.
1:00 PM ADVOCATE FOR REAL ACTION: LEGISLATIVE MEETINGS
Visit your legislators and attend legislative meetings. Laws are being made and our voice needs to be heard. This is a day to take action.
2:30 PM LEGISLATIVE ROUND ROBIN & ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Enjoy a tasty treat while hearing status updates by Iowa Legislators.
3:15 PM DEBRIEF & ADJOURN
We will advocate for legislative issues affecting minorities and ALL Iowans including:
Eliminating racial profiling
Ensuring the right to vote
Addressing the wealth gap
Removing education disparities
Increasing minority employment through fair chance hiring practices like banning the box
Eradicating Iowa’s top-ranking criminal justice disparities
Addressing lack of diversity in the jury pools
Affordable and available health care for everyone
Repealing harsh mandatory sentencing
Enacting fair drug policies
