  • Job Description for MDYC Board of Trustees

    Board Members must be a member of the Church of Christ, and no more than one parent or guardian of an individual in the organized company of singers shall serve as a Trustee at any one time.

     

    Board Members are expected to attend monthly board meetings throughout the year.

     

    Board Members are expected to participate in the interviewing and selection of the new chorus members each fall.  Try-outs are held early in September at the Royal Oak Church of Christ.

     

    Board Members are expected to attend and chaperone weekly chorus practices and performances.  Their supervisory role includes the enforcement of guidelines, “crowd” control, and monitoring behavior on and off the risers.

     

    Board members are expected to attend and act as chaperones at chorus functions.

     

    Board Members are expected to attend the fall camp held at Michigan Christian Youth Camp a fall day camp traditionally held at the Royal Oak Church of Christ and a winter day camp traditionally held at the Waterford Church of Christ.

     

    Board Members are expected to serve on committees that will organize and perform the various duties needed, such as; fund-raisers, first aid, sound, banquet, risers, directory/picture board, music folders, junior board, attendance, camps, uniforms, tour director, discipline committee, director liaison, concert schedule, auditions, sales table, memory book, devotional, concert directions,  recording, group picture, and guidelines.

     

    Board Members are expected to accompany the chorus on spring tour and to perform various duties while on tour.

     

    Board Members are assigned chorus members and are responsible for taking attendance of those members and making calls to those members when the need for communication of information to the members is necessary.

     

    In order to be elected to the MDYC Board you must receive a Majority Vote (greater than 50% of those voting).  Depending on how many openings are available, spots will be filled in order of how many votes an applicant received. The greater vote amount taking the first opening and then continuing on till all spots are filled as long as the applicant received a majority vote as mentioned above.

     

    I have read the above job description for MDYC Board of Trustees and I understand what my responsibilities will be should I be elected to the Board of Trustee.

    There will be a total of 9 board members for the 2025-2026 MDYC Year with 3 openings that are 3 year terms and a possible additional opening with a 1 year term. The election will take place at the May 4th Annual Parent Meeting at the Rochester Church of Christ.

     

    “The members of this corporation shall be the parents or guardians of the individuals who constitute the company of singers in the corporation.  The membership in this corporation by the parent or guardian shall commence upon the individual’s invitation to join the company of singers and shall continue so long as the individual is in the company of singers.”

                                                 Article I, Sections A & B of the MDYC by-laws

     

    “..No person shall be eligible for election as a Trustee unless his name shall be presented for consideration at a regular or special meeting of the Board of Trustees held previous to the meeting at which his election shall be acted upon…             

    "Trustees must be members of the Church of Christ and no more than one parent or guardian of an individual in the organized company of singers shall serve as a Trustee at any one time.  No more than four Trustees, who do not have an eligible member at the time of the Board election, shall serve concurrently on the Board."

    "In order to be elected as a Trustee to the Board, a nominee must receive greater than fifty percent of the vote on the day of the election."
