Your interest in pursuing tutoring at PNWU is a great step toward increased academic development.  At PNWU we strive daily to provide the very best academic offerings and enrichment to our students. All students need some sort of academic support, and there are times when it is desirable that the support come through more formal channels, such as tutoring.

Your application to seek tutoring is valued by the University and we are committed to connect you to tutors who will assist you in a structured, organized, and timely manner.  Based on this philosophy we ask that you read, fill-out and agree to the following premises of the PNWU near-peer tutoring program.

Please note that most third- and fourth-year students are located outside the Yakima area, so this tutoring is likely to occur remotely. This means you and your tutor will use some sort of videoconferencing platform, phone, email, text, or chat to hold your sessions. All PNWU students have access to Skype for Business. If you installed Microsoft Suite through PNWU, you already have Skype on your computer. If you did not install Microsoft Suite through PNWU, you can still install Skype for Business. Of course, you are welcome to use any other platform that works for all concerned.

To ensure the development of a quality and accountable tutoring program, the University would like both the tutor and the tutee to consider the following professional expectations on each end of this educational relationship:

The professional expectations of the tutor are:

1. Be on time for all tutoring sessions.
2. Pre-plan the structure of the tutoring session.
3. Come to all tutoring sessions prepared and ready to teach at the time the session is scheduled to begin.
4. Show respect for the tutees' time by providing 24-hour notice of cancellation of a session to the tutees.
5. Complete and submit Paylocity timesheets by the designated deadlines.
6. Represent the University and its mission statement in a professional manner, as a University employee.
7. Submit to the Learning Skills Specialist Weekly Tutoring Reports of all tutoring sessions with all tutees, as well as evaluation of tutoring activities when requested.

The professional expectations of the tutee are:

1. Be on time for all tutoring sessions.
2. Follow the suggestions provided by the tutor.
3. Come to all tutoring sessions with organized ideas of where assistance is needed and ready to learn at the time the session is scheduled to begin.
4. Show respect for the tutor’s time and effort in preparing for sessions by providing 24-hour notice of cancellation of a session to the tutor.
5. Submit to the Learning Skills Specialist evaluations of tutors when requested.
