  • Export and Courier Fees

  • Please note that there are two costs associated with exports.

One is the courier fee. If you would like a cost estimate for courier transportation, please let us know and we can reach out to the courier for a quote. Tbe courier cost is typically charged to the receiving investigator. However, sometimes for collaborations, the sending investigator may pay the courier cost.

Second, there is a CMS export fee plus supply charges. Please see the list of CMS rates or the Animal Export Guidelines for the current year fees. The fee covers the time for communications between institutions, maintenance of health report records, the USDA endorsement for international exports, crates, and an hour of packing time for a CMS technician. In addition, there are supply costs which depend on the number of cages sent. Technician or veterinary time spent in addition to these coverages will be billed at hourly rates. For large exports, there may be an additional fee for extra crates. Please contact TuftsCMS-exports@tufts.edu for a cost estimate.

FOR EXPORT FEES: As a courtesy to researchers to facilitate the mouse shipments, we can bill the receiving investigator by credit card. Please note that we will give the receiving investigator two weeks and two emails to pay by credit card online. After that, we will bill the sending investigator's lab. For this reason, we ask for your account number even if you have selected that the recipient investigator will pay the fees.

  •  Technology Transfer

  • The following questions relate to the possible need for material transfer agreements (MTA) between Tufts University or Tufts Medical Center and the recipient institution or between other institutions and the recipient institution. An MTA must be in place before shipping or receiving any genetically modified animals. Please contact mta@tufts.edu (Tufts University) or Tuftsmcgrants&contra@tuftsmedicalcenter.org (Tufts Medical Center) to determine if an MTA is required before shipment of the animals.
