Music at Churchie offers students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of Co-curricular music ensembles – String Ensembles, Concert Bands, Choir, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Bands and various chamber ensembles. We expect boys will be part of a core ensemble.  Core ensembles are Concert Bands, String Orchestras, Choirs and Guitar Ensembles.  Boys may then be invited to be part of an extension ensemble. Jazz Bands, Symphony Orchestra, Viking Vocalists, and Chamber groups are considered extension ensembles.

Any student who undertakes private music lessons, either at Churchie or externally, is expected to join a Co-curricular music ensemble.

Additionally, students who accept a position in an ensemble at Churchie will also commit to any performances, rehearsals, workshops, and camps of which their ensemble is a part.  It is the responsibility of each student to make sure he reads the communication from the conductors and is aware of calendar dates.

    Senior Music Ensembles Auditions

Auditions for all senior ensembles (Year 7-12) take place in Term 3 in preparation for the following year. Each instrument has set repertoire with varying levels of difficulty; Easy, Intermediate, and Advanced. According to these auditions, positions are assigned. Competition for places is keenly contested but there is an expectation that once having been selected your commitment to rehearsals, and performances will be absolute.

After an audition video is submitted and reviewed, boys are placed into an appropriate group depending on their performance level and ability. Senior Voices are for all interested in singing. Boys wishing to sing in choirs are not required to take private singing lessons. However, if a boy shows exceptional potential the DOM may recommend that the boy take lessons to ensure the good healthy development of the instrument.
