    NOTICE: Anyone with any Felony convictions, any Domestic Violence convictions, or who is currently on probation will be automatically DISQUALIFIED from this position.

  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    A candidate MUST meet the following minimum requirements PRIOR to submitting an application to avoid being competitively screened out from the testing process. The WSTB/1.5 mile run and CA POST PELLETB Written Examination are NOT administered by the San Jose Police Department. Applicants are required to complete these test(s) through another agency or authorized P.O.S.T. test station PRIOR to submitting an application form. Valid test scores are those that are within 1 year from the date of applying.


  • I am at least 20½ years old. (Mandatory retirement at 70 years old.)
  • Are you legally authorized to work in the United States under Federal Law?
  • I possess a valid U.S. Driver's License.*
  • I possess a U.S. high school diploma or general education diploma (GED). (Waived if you possess a 2-year or 4-year degree from a U.S. accredited college or university. Please check box if either condition applies.)*
  • I have successfully completed the 1.5 mile run in 14 minutes or less AND the WSTB (Work Sample Test Battery) with a score of 384 or above within the last year of when the test was administered.   (www.sjpdtest.eventbrite.com)

    Work is performed in a structured and sometimes stressful work environment. Incumbents are required to wear a uniform, comply with uniform and grooming standards and work various shifts including nights, weekends and holidays; overtime may be required including last minute shift extensions.
