THE ELIZABETH ABERNATHY HULL AWARD
Purpose: The Civic Improvement Committee, as part of The Garden Club of America, offers an award to an individual who provides outstanding education for our youth. The Elizabeth Abernathy Hull Fund for Early Environmental Education was established "to recognize an individual who, through working with children under 16 years of age in horticulture and the environment, has inspired their appreciation of the beauty and fragility of our planet."
Eligibility: Both GCA and non-GCA members are eligible and may be proposed. (Individuals may not propose themselves.)
Deadline: The Hull Award application and accompanying material must be received on or by March 1.
The nominating process for the Hull Award should be a confidential one. The candidate should not be aware that he/she is being considered for this award. Please do your best to learn about the candidate's background from co-workers and friends, and use approximate dates as needed.
Criteria used by the Hull Award selection committee includes:
- Direct involvement with children under the age of 16
- Use of innovative programming to actively engage young people
- Length of service—has worked in the field of youth education for a number of years
- Serves as an inspiration to youth that has left a lasting legacy
