Thank you for making the commitment to adopt an animal and give him or her a loving, permanent home.
The Yolo County SPCA is a foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter for you to visit. By housing the animals in people’s homes, the Yolo County SPCA is able to ascertain their individual personalities, needs, and behaviors. This helps us to match the right companion animal with the right adoptive home.
Our focus is making the best match between our adoptable animals and the prospective adopters. If the dog you are applying for is a good match for your family one of our adoption coordinators will contact you to let you know more about the dog, or let you know if we might have another dog that would be a good fit for your family. We are a volunteer-based organization and we are only able to contact the applicant for whom the dog would be a good match, and we may receive many applications for the same dog.
If you are filling out an application at one of our adoption events, your application will be forwarded to the adoption counselors for review. We may not be able to conduct an interview the same day you submit an application at one of our events.
Please remember that a pet is a family member and therefore, all members of the family need to be in agreement about when to adopt a pet and which pet to adopt.
To be considered as an adopter you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Be willing to be interviewed by an adoption counselor
- Have all the adults in your household present at the time of an interview.
- Have current identification showing your age and present address.
- Be willing and able to provide loving attention, medical care, and lifetime stability for a dog.
- Pay our adoption fees.
- Understand that the Yolo County SPCA reserves the right to deny any adoption application.
- Please answer all questions to give us a better idea of your household. If the question does not apply to you or your household please put N/A.
Please remember that we may receive many applications for the same dog.
