Description of Internship
Congressman Mike Honda is seeking a bright, friendly, and energetic individual with a pleasant and professional demeanor for an internship with his District Office. Candidates should be proficient in writing and retain prior administrative, telecommunications and customer service experience. Other preferable skills include but are not limited to: ability to work in teams and as an independent; knowledge of MS Office applications; interest in public service and the operations of federal agencies; and, the ability to stay positive and keep a calm and collected mind.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Asssisting constituents over the phone and in the office,
- Clerical duties such as filing, copying, faxing, etc.
- Drafting constituent correspondence,
- Representing the Congressman at community events, and
- Researching issues, agencies, and completing their projects.
Applications & Qualifications
The District Office accepts applications year-round. However, we typically begin interviewing according to the following schedule:
- Fall/Winter Internship Program: August
- Spring Internship Program: December/January
- Summer Internship Program: April (for semester students) & May (for quarter students)
Intern candidates must be in high school, enrolled as a current college undergraduate, or a recent graduate. High school interns are expected to commit a minimum of five (5) hours per week in intervals of at least two and a half hours per day. College or recent graduate interns are expected to commit a minimum of nine (9) hours per week with minimum intervals of three hours per session. The district office is open Monday through Friday 8:30am – 5:30pm, but interns are allowed to work any time from 8:30am – 6:00pm Monday through Friday. Candidates are required to submit their resume, cover letter, and a three-page writing sample.
