As a board member of TTCriders, I believe in the mission of the group, which is to be a voice for riders in Toronto and advocate for better and more affordable public transit.
I understand that my duties and responsibilities include the following:
- I am fiscally responsible, with other board members, for this organization. It is my duty to know what the budget is and to take an active part in planning the budget and then fundraising to meet it.
- I am legally responsible, along with the other board members, for this organization. I am responsible to know and approve all board by-laws and to oversee their implementation.
- I am morally responsible for the health and well-being of this organization. As a member of the board, I have pledged to myself to carry out the goals of TTCriders, which is to engage riders and campaign for better public transit.
- I will give a financial donation and be a TTCriders member. I may give this as a one-time donation each year or I may pledge to give a certain amount several times a year.
- I will engage in fundraising for this organization in whatever ways are best suited to me. These may include individual solicitation, helping with thank-you efforts, undertaking special events, writing mail appeals, and the like. There is no set amount of money that I must raise because I am making a good faith agreement to do my best.
- I will attend most board meetings, give regrets if I cannot attend, and be available for committee work, where appropriate, and phone consultation. I understand that commitment to this board will involved time and will require a minimum of 10 hours a month. As outlined in our bylaws, if I miss more than three meetings a year then the board has the discretion to ask me to leave.
This organization is responsible for me in a number of ways:
- The organization will send me, without request, agendas and updates prior to board meetings at least five days in advance so I can act in good faith and with diligence.
- Staff and fellow board members will make themselves available to me to discuss bylaws, programs, policies, goals, and objectives.
- Board members and staff will respond in a straightforward and thorough fashion to any question I have that I feel are necessary to carry out my fiscal, legal, and moral responsibilities to this organization.
- Staff and fellow board member will provide training and help so I feel supported and valued.
