To qualify for the Smart Business Award, an individual member* or organizational subscriber must have made an innovation or meaningful contribution to the improvement of their profession and the efficiency of school districts, based on the following criteria:
- Outstanding practices and ideas that result in significant contributions to school entities or the profession of school business management.
- Program or innovation has been developed and successfully implemented by California school business professional(s) employed at a local education agency (commercial businesses are not eligible).
- Program or innovation has made a statewide impact or has the potential to make an impact on the business practices of other school districts around the state
*For purposes of the awards nomination process, an “individual member” is a current Organizational Subscriber Employee Member, Honorary Life Member or Retiree Member. Associate Members are not eligible for this award.
