  • 1. You may take a child to your own place of worship if the child is under 9 years of age and the parents do not object.
  • 2. You can require that the child attend church and you can prevent church attendance as a consequence or a punishment for a child’s behavior
  • 3. Resource families have a right to express and practice their religious beliefs (or non-beliefs) even if they are different than that of a child or a child’s family.
  • 4. Birth parents lose the right to choose the religious beliefs and practices (or non-religious beliefs and practices) once their child goes into the foster care system
  • 8. Resource families should not attempt to change a child’s religious tradition or faith.
  • 9. It is appropriate that an adolescent has questions about spirituality, beliefs, religion, and morality and it is okay for foster parents to talk to youth about those questions.
  • 10. Birth parents can demand that a foster family be the same religion as themselves.
  • 11. Families have to hide their religious practices and promise not to talk about their religious beliefs if they become foster families..
