Do you paint, draw or doodle? Use your skills to push Shell to clean up the mess it has made in Nigeria's Niger Delta!
Here is what:
Design a poster that can be shared on social media. Your poster will make viewers aware of Shell's unwillingness to clean up oil spills and/or encourage Shell to change its mind and do the right thing.
Here's why:
Shell - a company focused on high tech innovation - still hasn't managed to clean up its own mess properly after many decades of polluting the Niger Delta.
Hundreds of oil spills occur in the Niger Delta every year, causing significant harm to the environment. Decades of pollution has destroyed people's livelihoods, undermined their rights to clean water and food, and put their health at serious risk.
The United Nations Environment Programme has made specific recommendations to Shell, particularly around the way it cleans up oil spills in Nigeria, but the company is still not doing enough to prevent spills from happening, to clean up pollution, and to compensate those who are affected by the pollution.
Amnesty International, a global human rights organization with over 7 million supporters, is calling on Shell to clean-up its mess in the Niger Delta. Amnesty International also urges the Nigerian government to establish a clean-up fund and kick-start the UN's clean-up recommendations.
