Our mission
Arts in Foggy Bottom sponsors outdoor sculpture exhibitions in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, D.C. on a biennial basis. Founded in 2007, its mission is to foster creativity and community dialogue by serving as a conduit for expression through the arts and providing exhibition space to emerging and established artists.
About the exhibition
For its fifth outdoor sculpture biennial, Arts in Foggy Bottom invites artists to consider the many legacies of Historic Foggy Bottom. We are looking for work that: (1) engages the neighborhood’s sites and architecture; (2) pulls from the area’s history of residents and businesses; (3) draws on Foggy Bottom’s written and recorded past and/or possible futures; and (4) sparks a dialogue with the residential community.
We will select approximately 15 artists to show their work on private property throughout Historic Foggy Bottom for a period of six months. We welcome work that explores an expanded definition of outdoor sculpture, including installation, new media, and performance. Proposals for site-specific projects will also be accepted. Any existing works must have been completed within the last 5 years to be considered. Emerging artists and advanced MFA students are strongly encouraged to apply.
