Lauren Barbrey, LAc
I’ve had a lifelong interest in health and nutrition, though my first career was not in that field. I worked as a computer programmer for 20 years with all the stress and poor dietary temptations that often come with that profession. As I looked down the road of life, I knew that I did not still want to be sitting at a desk under fluorescent lights for the next 20 years.
In 1993 I enrolled in acupuncture school and began a four year journey that would take my life in more exciting directions than I could have ever imagined. I graduated with honors, passed my medical boards, and began my new career as a licensed acupuncturist, (LAc).
My favorite part of Oriental Medicine was learning about the herbs and how powerfully they could affect health. I was drawn the “Spleen-Stomach” aspect of the medicine, which would roughly translate to the study of nutrition in current terms. While I was getting great results in my practice through the use of needles and other modalities, I knew that if I didn’t address the internal processes of the body it would be very hard to help restore optimal health. Our diets and lifestyles have changed dramatically since the early days of Oriental Medicine and our bodies were not designed to tolerate the daily insults that they face from modern food toxins and environmental toxins.
I began attending conferences that focused on nutrition. It made sense that in order for the body to work correctly it had to have the nutrients to do that job. Sadly, those nutrients are no longer in the foods we commonly eat.
I had another life changing experience at a nutrition conference when I met Bobbie Barbrey, the man who would become my husband. We married in 2009 and share a passion for nutrition and helping people find optimal health. We both do nutritional counseling at Medicap Pharmacy and remotely over the phone. In addition, I have maintained a part time acupuncture practice. www.TranquilityAcupunctureRaleigh.com
When I first walked through the aisles at Medicap Pharmacy, I was like a kid in a candy store. I’d never seen such a beautiful collection of quality nutritional products in one place. Bobbie put a lot of careful thought into the selection of the products he carries.
