Ask the Professor: What You Need to Know About Anti-Bribery Laws

Presented by the Young Advocates and Criminal Litigation Committees

  • Tuesday, December 8, 2015 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Eastern

The U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) has garnered significant media attention in the wake of bribery investigations in recent years. Join us for a discussion with Mike Koehler, the “FCPA Professor,” about what lies behind the sensational stories. You will learn when a kickback is just a kickback, what common themes appear across investigations, what drives the government’s big settlement amounts, the FCPA’s interplay with other laws, the recent focus on targeting individuals, and how the U.S. government has been expanding the scope of liability both within the U.S. and beyond its borders.  Please send questions to morwetzler@paulhastings.com .

Mike Koehler is a leading expert on the FCPA and other similar laws, author of the FCPA Professor blog ( www.fcpaprofessor.com ), and a law professor at Southern Illinois University School of Law.  Professor Koehler’s expertise and views are informed by a decade of FCPA practice experience at a leading international law firm during which he conducted FCPA investigations around the world, negotiated resolutions to FCPA enforcement actions with government enforcement agencies, and advised clients on FCPA compliance and risk assessment. His FCPA insights are further informed by having read and analyzed: the FCPA’s entire legislative history, every FCPA enforcement action, every FCPA judicial decision, and other information and sources of guidance relevant to the FCPA.
