Pitties & Pals Rescue uses different walking and training equipment based on the needs of each individual dog. This may include martingale collars, slip leads and prong collars. Are you willing to learn and properly use the equipment assigned to each dog?

Our dogs have different handling needs. Volunteers are required to follow the specific instructions provided for each dog, even when those instructions differ from how you may handle your own pets. Are you willing to follow Pitties & Pals Rescue handling and safety protocols at all times?

Please read and sign below: As a new volunteer, I hereby acknowledge and agree that there are inherent risks in accepting the care and custody of any animal. I have full knowledge of the risk associated with the care and custody of domestic animals, including but not limited to: • Animals are different than humans and may differ in their responses to human behavior, and I understand that sometimes their responses change with their environment. • Animals’ behavior may be unpredictable and they may bite or otherwise injure the undersigned. You must be able to recognize the difference between an animal not feeling well and an animal just acting irritable. • I acknowledge that this list is not inclusive of all possible risks associated with the care and custody of any Pitties and Pals Rescue animal and in no way limits the extent or reach of this release. I also acknowledge that the Pitties and Pals Rescue has not made any warranty, either expressed or implied, as to the behavior, fitness or health of any animal offered for adoption or foster. • If I accept the care and custody of any animal, the undersigned agrees to release and indemnify and hold harmless Pitties and Pals Rescue or any agent representing Pitties and Pals Rescue from any cause of action, claim, suit, or demand of any nature whatsoever, including but not limited to any claims of negligence that I or any family member, heirs, agent representatives, executors, administrators and assigns may now have, or may have in the future, against Pitties and Pals Rescue on account of personal injury, property damage, death or accident of any kind, arising out of or in any way related to any animal the Pitties and Pals Rescue has offered for adoption or foster.

VOLUNTEER WAIVER, ASSUMPTION OF RISK & RELEASE OF LIABILITY

I understand that volunteering with Pitties & Pals Rescue, Inc. may involve working with and around dogs and participating in activities including, but not limited to, dog walking, kennel cleaning, feeding, handling equipment, adoption and fundraising events, transportation, and other rescue-related activities.

I understand and acknowledge that working with animals involves inherent and unpredictable risks. Even a dog with no known history of aggression may behave unexpectedly. Risks may include, but are not limited to, bites, scratches, jumping, pulling, falls, collisions, animal escapes, exposure to animal waste, parasites or communicable illness, property damage, and other injuries.

I knowingly and voluntarily assume the risks associated with my participation as a volunteer. To the fullest extent permitted by New Jersey law, I release and agree to hold harmless Pitties & Pals Rescue, Inc., its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, agents and representatives from claims arising from the ordinary negligence of the released parties in connection with my volunteer activities, including claims involving personal injury, illness, property damage or loss. This release is not intended to waive any right or claim that cannot legally be waived under New Jersey law.

I agree to follow all Pitties & Pals Rescue policies, safety procedures, training requirements and individual dog handling instructions at all times. I understand that I may only handle dogs I have been authorized to handle and must use the equipment designated for each dog. I agree to immediately report any bite, injury, dog escape, equipment failure or other safety incident to Pitties & Pals Rescue leadership. I understand that failure to follow rescue policies or safety procedures may result in the suspension or termination of my volunteer privileges.

In the event of an emergency, I authorize Pitties & Pals Rescue representatives to contact my emergency contact and seek emergency assistance when reasonably necessary. I understand that I am responsible for my own medical expenses except as otherwise required by law or provided by applicable insurance.

By signing below, I acknowledge that I have carefully read and understand this Volunteer Waiver, Assumption of Risk & Release of Liability. I understand that by signing I may be giving up certain legal rights. I voluntarily agree to these terms and certify that the information provided in my volunteer application is true and complete to the best of my knowledge.
