  • Overview:The Associated General Contractors of Alaska, Inc. (AGC of Alaska) & Construction Education Foundation, Inc. (CEF) Scholarship program is designed to encourage students to pursue a career in the construction industry or a related field such as accounting, insurance & bonding or human resources. Scholarship awards will be limited to individuals who plan to live and work in Alaska. Applications are due to the Anchorage AGC office by 4:00 pm on April 1, 2017. They may be turned in any time prior to this date. AGC & CEF will award 6 scholarships based on a scoring guide developed by a steering committee: two $5000 and four $2500 scholarships.Successful scholarship recipients will be notified in writing by May 19, 2017 and their award will be presented at the AGC Annual Golf Tournament reception June 15,2017 at the AGC offices at 8005 Schoon StreetIf you have questions, please call Kathleen Castle at 907-222-0999 or email kathleen@alaskacef.org

  • Administration and Objective

  • Objective:

    The objective of the AGC's Scholarship Program is to encourage students to pursue a career in the construction industry. 

    Eligibility: Applicants for an AGC scholarship must meet the following requirements:

    1.) Applicants must plan to enter the construction industry or a related field (supportive field) such as accounting, insurance/ bonding, human resources ETC. 

    2.) An individual must submit a completed application with the following attachments on or before April 1st, 2017 at 4:00 pm Alaska Time. 

    a.) One page essay on career goals

    b.) an essay about the applicant (work/ school life, family obligations, hobbies/ interests, etc.)

    c.) Copy of recent transcripts

    d.) Minimum of 2 letters of recommendation

    3.) Applicant must be either US citizen or permanent resident of the United States AND an Alaskan resident.


     

    Administration of the award program:

    General:

    The members of the AGC Education Committee will act as the Scholarship program Committee and are responsible for making recommendations to the AGC Executive Director for selecting the recipients of the award.


    Publicity: Award results will be listed in the AGC newsletter, website, and Facebook page. It will also be published in the Alaska Contractor Magazine.

     

    Selection Criteria

    The recipient of the scholarship awards are selected based on the following criteria

    1. Career Goals
    Evaluation made by assessing the two essays described above (Eligibility 2, A)

    2.Extracurricular Activities
    Examples include: having employment, previous work experience, family obligations,         
    college and community activities, offices held, awards received, participation in sports, etc. (Eligibilty 2, B)

    3.Recommendations
    Each applicant must include at least two (2) letters of recommendation, preferably from teachers or employers who are knowledgeable about the applicant’s capabilities and work history

    4.Transcripts
        Include a copy of recent transcripts.

     


     

    Selection of Award Recipients:

    The decision of the AGC Executive Director is considered final and all candidates will be advised in writing of the decision.

     

    Disbursement of the Scholarship Awards:

    All scholarships, once awarded, will be made in the form of a check in the name of the recipient sent straight to the recipient’s school.
