REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS:
The Jefferson County 4-H Foundation offers two Foundation and one Livestock scholarship annually, each in the amount of $500. To be eligible for one of these scholarships the applicant must meet the following requirements:
1. The applicant must be entering the first year of an accredited college, university, or vocational school with a minimum 9-month curriculum per year.
2. The applicant must be enrolled in 4-H during the senior year (in high school) and must have been enrolled in 4-H for at least 5 years, three of which must have been in Jefferson County. Applicants with under 5 years 4-H experience may be considered with an accompanying letter of recommendation signed by the county 4-H specialist.
3. 4-H Member must have completed at least one project for each of the 5 qualifying years or submit a supporting letter from county 4-H specialist for under 5 years.
4. The applicant must maintain a grade point average ranking in the upper one-half of the class.
5. The applicant must note any 4-H, school, and community activities in which he/she is involved, as these will be considered, as noted in the application.
6. The scholarship money ($500) will be sent to the school designated by the applicant. Applicant must provide mailing address and student ID# to the Foundation via the CSU Extension office, to ensure the funds are sent to the correct department at the desginated school. Failure to provide proof of acceptance to the 4-H Foundation by December 15, 2026, will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship.
JUNIOR LIVESTOCK REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS:
The Jefferson County 4-H Foundation will offer one Junior Livestock Scholarship annually. To be eligible for this scholarship the applicant must meet the following requirements:
1. The applicant must be entering the first year of Post-Secondary education at an accredited college, university or vocational school with a minimum 9-month curriculum per year.
2. The applicant must currently be enrolled in a 4-H Livestock Project and must have been enrolled in Jefferson County Livestock Projects for at least 3 years.
3. Requirements #4, #5 and #6 above apply to Junior Livestock Scholarship applicants.
Application Form
1. Please complete the Jefferson County 4-H Foundation/Junior Livestock Scholarship Application Form.
2. Applicants are urged to make a copy of their application and associated documents for their personal records.
3. The Jefferson County Extension Office acts only as an initial repository for submitted applications; communications regarding the scholarship application (following submission) should be addressed to the 4-H Foundation, c/o CSU Jefferson County Extension.
TIME FRAME for APPLICATION, SELECTION, & NOTIFICATION
1. Completed application, high school transcript, and 2-4 letters of recommendation (from references other than parents and county Extension specialists) must be received by the by the county 4-H office no later than 5 p.m. on January 31, 2026. Applications must be complete to be considered. Applications received later than the deadline noted for the current year will not be processed unless an exception is made upon written request to the 4-H Foundation.
2. A committee of 3 or 4 Foundation board members will make the final selection based on above criteria. Interviews may be requested by this selection committee.
3. The 4-H Foundation will notify applicants of its final decisions by May 1 of the year of application.
4. Original applications and associated documents will be held by the 4-H Foundation for a maximum of 2 years, from February 2nd of the year of application.
5. Recipients must provide the Foundation with proof of acceptance or validation of tuition payment by December 15 of the year of application or they will forfeit the scholarship. In extenuating circumstances, the Foundation will consider extending the deadline if a written request is received by November 1 of the year of application.
OTHER:
The Foundation shall seek publicity for the scholarship awards by presentation at the student’s high school award ceremony, local newspapers, or other available social media.
