CRITICAL LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIP (CLS)
The Critical Language Scholarship Program is a fully funded summer overseas language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students. This program seeks participants from a variety of fields, backgrounds, and career paths, with the goal of building a base of Americans who speak critical languages at high levels in government, business, arts and culture, science and engineering, health and medicine, education, research, and other fields.
The CLS Program lasts 8-10 weeks in the summer. Participants typically live with a host family or in dorm style housing. It is estimated that CLS participants gain the equivalent of one-year of study in U.S. classrooms over a single summer. Currently there are programs in the following languages: Azerbaijani, Bangla, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Punjabi, Swahili, Turkish, Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian
