Tuition Assistance Review Policy ** Please Read **
Continuance of Tuition Assistance funds are subject to Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) towards a degree and requested at the beginning of each academic year. SAP is defined as:
- Maintaining a 3.0 GPA or better.
- Completion of a minimum of 6 credit hours per Fall and Spring semesters with an option of 3 credit hours in the Summer semester.
- Completion of the degree program within US DOE academic standard guidleines.
- All tuition assistance credits are posted at the end of each academic semester.
3.0 GPA
Graduate credit is granted to courses receiving a grade of "C" or better. However, students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 (B) or better each semester to qualify for tuition assistance funds.
Enrollment & course completion
HUGS provides tuition assistance to students enrolled in a degree plan. Students entering under "Open enrollment" (that do not complete the degree plan application in 703 OrP class) and equivalency credit courses are not eligible for tuition assistance. Students receiving tuition assistance funds are required to enroll in, and complete, at least 6-credit hours each Fall and Spring semester. Students are required to apply for tuition assistance funds each academic year.
Program Completion Timeframe
Tuition assistance students are expected to complete their degree program within a reasonable amount of time from initial program enrollment. Given that the minimum course load is 6-credit hours per semester, Masters students are expected to complete their program within 3 years, Doctoral students within 5 years, and Combined Masters/Doctoral students within 8 years of initial enrollment.
Incompletes
Taking an incomplete in a course has both academic and financial ramifications. In order to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress, tuition assistance students are limited to one (1) incomplete in a semester. Incompletes are not automatic and will be granted only in the event of extenuating circumstances, such as illness or death in one’s family, and is at the discretion of the faculty member.
In order to retain tuition assistance funding, incompletes must be cleared within the 2 weeks following the semester. If outstanding work is not submitted by the due date, the student forfeits the assistance for the next semester.
Leave of Absence
Students who take a leave of absence automatically forfeit their tuition assistance.
Tuition Assistance Reinstatement
Students who, for whatever reason, have lost their tuition assistance funding may reapply at the beginning of the new academic year.
