PURPOSE
The George Steinbrenner Memorial Maritime Scholarship (Technical) was established in 2015. The mission of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to graduates of the “Maritime Technology” program in Hillsborough County Public Schools. The George Steinbrenner Memorial Maritime Scholarship (Technical) assists individuals enrolling for technical training leading to a career in the Maritime Industry. These career paths include, but are not limited to: welding, pipefitting, machinery, and electrical trades, marine joinery, industrial hygiene and safety, port and terminal operations, marine agency, logistics, seagoing apprenticeship, etc. In short, eligibility is open to persons who intend to pursue any of the widely varied opportunities within or related to the maritime industry.
Students who have submitted the 2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should provide a copy. (Applying for Federal Student Aid is Optional)
- Academic achievement (Grade point average and any optional Standardized Test Scores (FCAT or TABE)

- Work history
- Participation in maritime related internships
- Any awards received to date
APPLICATION PROCESS
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS MUST PROVIDE:
- Completed application form.
- Federal Student Aid Application (FAFSA) (Optional).
- Standardized Test Scores (FCAT or TABE) (Optional).
- Official high school transcript received electronically or by mail.
- One reference from a guidance counselor, employer or teacher.
- Proof of acceptance at a vocational or technical school.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
- The Foundation pays scholarship grants directly to the recipient’s school.
- Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, religion, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation, without regard to disability status.
