For this month, we're talking about the literary influences in Beyoncé's new visual album, Lemonade. We're also running a special edition on Prince's untimely passing. We're accepting submissions for both topics until Midnight on Monday, May 2nd, 2016. See below for details on each piece:
1) Writers React to: Beyoncé's Lemonade: The visual album Lemonade dropped three days ago and has already inspired writers to respond in a variety of ways, such as Roxane Gay's tweet that she's creating a Lemonade syllabus, this creative response, or this "further reading" list. In 250 words, what's your response to the album, either critical or creative? How does the album interact with the work of twentieth century black women writers, as Gay suggests?
2) Writers React to: Prince: In 250 words, we want to know how you responded to Prince's death. Did Prince's life and work have a big impact on you and yours? What did his death mean to you? What creative tribute are you working on that you'd like to share with the world?
For either piece, we’d also love your suggestions for related reading—be it novels, memoirs, essays, or short stories (optional).
