We all think we know how to market ourselves to prospective clients, what is best for them and how to accomplish what we think is what they want and need. Sometimes, however, the prospective or existing client has their own idea of what their needs may be and how construction counsel can best meet those needs. When what we think they want and what they truly want are miles apart, prospective and existing clients may look elsewhere.
Join Wendy Venoit (Suffolk Construction Company, Inc., Vice President & General Counsel, Boston MA) and Thomas Nocar (Senior Attorney at Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur, Columbus OH) in a discussion of what construction clients are seeking in engaging and retaining outside counsel. Wendy was a construction litigator for nearly 20 years before joining Suffolk Construction Company, Inc. as its General Counsel, and must now engage and work with outside counsel. Tom was a commercial general contractor for over 26 years before becoming an attorney and recently left a general contractor in-house counsel position to pursue private practice. Their unique perspectives into the client/attorney relationship in construction matters will provide valuable insight to construction practitioners seeking to be retained (and stay retained) by construction industry clients.
