Omega Phi Chi is a multicultural sorority that was established on November 9, 1988 at Rutgers University in New Jersey by eight young women leaders of Asian, African-American, and Latina descent. They came together to found a multicultural sorority, a different type of organization, that would not be categorized by ethnicity or culture. The purpose of Omega Phi Chi is to generate unity among all women by fostering a sisterhood based on honesty, loyalty, mutual respect, responsibility for one another, academic excellence, and service to surrounding communities. Since their founding Omega Phi Chi has expanded throughout New Jersey, New York, Florida, Texas, Arizona, California, and Indiana and is comprised of women who encompass a vast variety of different backgrounds that include ethnicity, socio-economic status, religious and political affiliation, sexual orientation, etc.
