Dogs originating from the south are more likely to test positive for heartworm at a later date. JR’s recommends retesting in 6 months and maintaining an insurance policy until that time.
If the dog tests positive for HW prior to adoption, JRs will treat the dog. If they test positive again 8 months post adoption, JRs will cover 2nd treatment at one of our vets.
If the dog tests negative prior to adoption it is possible that they will test positive anywhere from 1-6 months after exposure. Pet insurance may cover the treatment (depending on the carrier).
Rabies vaccines and licensing in your community are required by law and are part of your contractual obligations.
Worms are a normal reaction to stress in a dog. They exist in the dog's intestines and under times of stress the body is unable to defend against them. The insurance will cover worms as part of their coverage.
