• Tax Impact Estimators

    (Updated 9.20.2016)
  • District 15 officials are providing these estimators to help taxpayers gauge the increase to their real estate tax bill should the District issue $130 million in new school bonds. While these estimators represent the tax codes for the largest group of tax bills, they do not capture every taxing code in the District. These are targets that will be close to the actual increases, but they are not specific to every area in the District. The last estimator ("Other District Residents") allows a taxpayer to enter the tax code from the 2016 tax bill for a property to determine another estimate for that property.

According to estimates provided by William Blair & Company, for a Palatine resident with a 2016 tax bill of $7,000, the expected tax impact would be an increase of approximately $136 in property taxes in 2017.

(Please note: These estimations are based upon the District not issuing any additional debt. The current administration and Board of Education have no intent of issuing bonds in the foreseeable future other than the $130 million in new school bonds. Consequently, the estimated increase is based upon this assumption.

Also, the estimated increase is based upon lower payments toward the $130 million in the first 11 years while payments on existing bonds are still being made. When the existing bonds are paid off, the payment towards the $130 million bond issue increases. Through this repayment schedule, it is estimated that real estate tax bills will show the same amount of debt service payments for 20 years until the new bonds are completely repaid. See pages 4-5 of the William Blair presentation.)
