Accessibility at First Congregational Church of Oakland:

At First Congregational Church of Oakland, we are committed to making our spaces as accessible as possible, while navigating the realities of a 100-year-old building perched atop a steep hill.

Access to the building:
- Please note that the church is located at the top of a steep hill, and currently there is no accessible route from the street-level sidewalk or bus stop to our accessible entrance.
- We are actively exploring ways to improve this access. In the meantime, guests using wheelchairs or mobility scooters should plan to drive or be dropped off at the top of the back parking lot, which provides access to the accessible entrance.
- There are several designated disabled parking spots in the back lot.
- From the back lot, a ramp with an ADA-compliant slope leads to a sidewalk providing access to both the sanctuary side door and the blue door to most ground-floor rooms.
  
  Note: This is the more gradual ramp on the right as you face the building, not the steep ramp. Assistance may still be helpful when using this ramp.
- Unless a member of your group has propped it open, the blue door requires assistance to open, as there is no automatic push-button switch installed.
Ground-Floor Accessibility:
- Once inside, most ground-floor rooms are wheelchair accessible, allowing guests to navigate the main areas with ease.
Restroom Accessibility:
- There is one gender-neutral ADA-compliant restroom on the ground floor.
- The women’s restroom at the center of the ground floor includes one ADA-compliant stall.
- Restrooms nearest the sanctuary are gender-neutral, spacious enough for wheelchairs and scooters, and feature grab bars and accessible door handles.

- Scented cleaning products are used in the space.
- Second-floor spaces are not accessible

This is a Public EventThis is a Private EventFood/Beverages Will Be Served: Renter acknowledges that all food and beverages must be removed from the premises at the end of the event. Renter is responsible for providing any supplies needed for food preparation, serving, and cleanup. If using the kitchen, Renter understands the kitchen policy and any limitations (e.g., no functional stove/oven, no dishwasher, full or minimal use).Alcohol Will Be Served (Limited to Wine or Champagne only): Beer is not permitted. Two unarmed security guards are required for any event where alcohol is served. Alcohol service must end by 10:00 p.m. Renter is responsible for arranging security and must confirm with the Building Coordinator at least two weeks prior to the event. By selecting this option, Renter acknowledges responsibility for compliance with all alcohol and security requirements.Event Will Include Acoustic Music (Non-Amplified): No amplified sound restrictions apply, but all performers must respect FCCO space and equipment.Event Will Include Amplified Music (DJ, Live Band, etc.): Renter acknowledges that all amplified music must end by 10:00 p.m. in accordance with FCCO policies. Renter is responsible for ensuring that all performers or DJs comply with this requirement.Will Bring Own Sound System: Renter acknowledges FCCO does not provide sound equipment or a technician. Renters are responsible for ensuring that there are enough adults to adequately supervise all children and youth at all times. If you require additional childcare rooms, please indicate them in your rental request.
Additional Information you need to know. Please read each item carefully.

Building and Event Hours: The facilities are available no earlier than 8:00 a.m. Events/meetings/gatherings must end by 10:00 p.m., including any music and alcohol service. Renter's clean up of their event must be complete by 11:00 p.m. All guests and renters shall exit the facility no later than 11:00 p.m.Refundable Rental Deposit: A refundable deposit is required to secure your space and date. The amount will range from $50 - $600 depending on the type of event. The deposit is automatically doubled if ALCOHOL will be served.Payment: 50% of the rental fees (rooms, staff, equipment, etc.) plus the refundable deposit is due at the time of signing the contract. The balance is due at least 30 days prior to the event. Payment may be made by check, cashier's check or money order. Cash, credit cards and debit cards are not accepted. If your event is less than 14 days away, payment must be made by cashier's check or money order.Insurance: Any individual or group using church facilities must be able to show that bodily injury and public liability insurance is in force in an amount not less than one million dollars ($1,000,000) per occurrence. First Congregational Church of Oakland, United Church of Christ, is to be named as an additional insured in all policies related to this coverage. Often an individual's homeowner's/renter's insurance policy will cover the event. Please check with your agent. Otherwise, event insurance can be obtained at www.theeventhelper.comEvent Staff: At least one church staff member will be on site during all event rentals. One or two staff member are required for every 100 attendees (or fraction thereof) depending on the type of event . The charge for event staff is $35/hour per staff member assigned to your event. Event staff time will include time needed to clean up after your event and all members of the rental party have left.Event Set Up and Clean Up/Breakdown: Renters will provide volunteers or shall arrange for our event staff (at an additional fee) to set up the tables and chairs for their event. Renters will also provide volunteers or arrange for our event staff (at an additional fee) to break down tables and chairs, take down decorations, clean up and sort event refuse into the appropriate trash/recycle/compost containers . Tables and chairs are to be returned to their designated storage areas. Renter's hired catering staff may also provide these services at the renter's expense. Church Event Staff will sweep, vacuum and or mop floors as needed following the event.Kitchen Policy: NOTE: We currently do not have a functional oven/stove. Full Use: Access to work surfaces, refrigerator, and (when available) stove/oven for food preparation and catering. Minimal Use: Access to work surfaces only. There is no dishwasher. Renters must provide all supplies needed for food preparation and serving. All food and beverages must be removed from the kitchen at the end of the rental period.Wi-Fi: The facilities have very limited wi-fi. If your event is dependent on wi-fi access, you will need to bring your own mobile hotspot.Sound Equipment and Technician: Renters are responsible for providing all sound equipment and personnel, including a sound engineer, as needed for their event.Other Equipment for Rent: Portable PA System: $75/day. Ideal for small events; lightweight and easy to use. Large 110" Projection Screen: $50/day. Digital Projector: $100/day + $150 refundable deposit. Available for events or meetings held at FCCO. By requesting use of any equipment, you acknowledge responsibility for proper care and agree to return all items in the condition received.Security Guard Requirement (Unarmed): Required at the renter’s expense for any event where alcohol (limited to wine and champagne) is served. Two security guards are required if your event exceeds 150 guests. Renters are responsible for arranging security and must confirm with the Booking Coordinator at least two weeks prior to the event. By requesting your event, you acknowledge responsibility for securing the required personnel and complying with these rules.Advertise Event on FCCO Marquee (Public Events Only): Fee: $50 per week. Please indicate the number of weeks you would like your event to be displayed..Trash, Recycling and Compost: All trash, recycling and compost must be separated into the proper containers provided by FCCO. Recyclables must be empty before discarding. Failure to comply may result in additional charges.Parking Acknowledgment: FCCO has very limited parking and cannot guarantee parking for renters or their guests. Street parking and nearby parking garages/lots are available within walking distance.
