August 30, 2017
Presenters: Evenflo, TBA
Time: 8:30 am to 11:30 am
Synopsis: Have you ever been faced with a scenario that requires the family to choose between an un-tethered car seat or a booster seat? Are you regularly asked questions about when to transition a child from a car seat to a booster seat? This session will discuss best practice recommendations, crash dynamics and curbside messages to share with caregivers. The presentation will review testing requirements of FMVSS 213. Participants will work in small groups to discuss case studies. Participants will develop a decision tree with factors to consider to assist caregivers in selecting the appropriate restraint.
Presenters: Monte Yazzie, Commander Rob Morones, Lt. Commander Jason Hymer, Verena Jackson, Norma Bowman
Synopsis: There are 566 federally recognized tribes in the United States. Some of these communities are located near cities and are provided a wealth of resources to promote safety interventions, others are located in remote areas that are many miles from supportive programs that can serve as safety resources. These communities, that compose a unique cultural and socio-economic climate, are faced with challenges most programs in urban settings are never forced to address. Understanding how to utilize program strategies and best practices to fit the specific demographic of the community can provide valuable information to other agencies.
Presenters: Dr. Ben Hoffman
Time: 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Summary: CPS technicians bear witness every day to the limits of law and policy to protect children. How can we utilize our expertise and experience to help change our communities?
Presenters: Sue Emery, Terriann Shell, Karen Gay
Summary: Instruction manuals are what the caregiver generally has to work with. As technicians it is to our advantage to know what these manuals say. We learn through delving into the written words. We will practice through individual and team challenges. By our learning and practicing together we are positioned to better explain and educate. This is a whole new Tool Kit presentation.
NOTE: This will be a Biennial offering. Offered the 1st year of each conference location.
Presenters: Denise Donaldson, Woody Johnston, TBA
Time: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
