SXSW presents the 2017 SXSW Gaming Student Showcase in connection with SXSW Gaming, occurring March 16-18, 2017 in Austin, Texas.
APPLICATION PROCESS
* All applications must be submitted no later by 11:59 pm local Austin time on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017.
* No application fee is required for entry.
ELIGIBILITY
* The Applicant must be considered a student developer at the time of submission.
* If an individual, the Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
* To be considered a "Student", the Applicant must be currently enrolled or have attended a high school or college within the last year.
* Applicants must be prepared to be present at SXSW Gaming to display their game for the 3 days.
* Submitted games may run on any platform, but the Applicant must communicate platform needs and provide a playable version to SXSW for judging purposes.
* All submitted games must be complete or substantially feature-complete.
* The game submitted by Applicant must be Applicant's original work and/or Applicant must have all necessary rights and permissions to submit and publish the game.
* If the Applicant submits a game that uses third-party engines, middleware, or other software, then Applicant must have all necessary rights to commercially publish the game.
* You may enter more than one title, but only one entry can be selected.
SELECTION PROCESS
SXSW Gaming Staff will review all of the games submitted and will consider the criteria such as the following: Gameplay, Quality, Fun Factor, Technique, Design, etc. SXSW Gaming Staff will then select the top 10 games (in case of a tie, additional games may be invited) by late January, which will then be featured as part of the Student Showcase at SXSW Gaming.
PERKS
* The top 10 games (in case of a tie, additional games may be invited) will receive a FREE showcase table within a dedicated space.
* Each team representing the game will receive 2 complimentary Film, Music, or Interactive Badges, their choice, that allows access to other areas of SXSW.
* Access to reserved SXSW hotel blocks.
REPRESENTATIONS Each Applicant represents and warrants that:* Applicant has the authority to apply and the person submitting the application on Applicant's behalf is authorized to do so.* Applicant's application will not violate any agreement or understanding by which Applicant is bound, including any confidentiality, employment, consulting, intellectual property assignment, or license agreement. * Submission and publication of Applicant's game will not infringe or misappropriate any intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any person or entity.
RELEASE By applying, each Applicant assumes responsibility for and will indemnify, release, and hold harmless SXSW, its parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates, and each of their respective officers, directors, agents, and employees (the “SXSW Parties”) from any and all responsibility or liability arising out of or in connection with: (a) any breach of Applicant's representations or warranties contained herein; and (b) Applicant's violation of the Rules and any guidelines, policies and terms prescribed by SXSW. Except where prohibited, Applicant consents to SXSW’s use of Applicant's name, likeness, and similar characteristics for the purpose of advertising, selling, or otherwise promoting the Showcase, the Expo, and the Festival. Applicant agrees that there will be no financial or other monetary compensation for such use.
LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY The SXSW Parties are not responsible for: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by Applicant, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated; (2) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the application process or the Showcase; (4) technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the Showcase or the processing of applications; or (5) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from Applicant"s participation in the Showcase. If for any reason an Applicant"s application is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost, or otherwise destroyed or corrupted, Applicant's sole remedy is another application in the Showcase.
CONFIDENTIALITY All preliminary application information and game data that is submitted is confidential and will be only viewed by SXSW staff. During the Expo, selected nominees will display their games.
TERMINATION SXSW reserves the right to cancel, modify or suspend the Showcase for any causes beyond the control of SXSW that affect the effective administration, proper conduct, or integrity of the Showcase. If this event should occur, SXSW will post notice on the SXSW Gaming Expo website.
MISCELLANEOUS If any part of these rules is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal, or otherwise unenforceable, such part will be deemed modified or eliminated to the extent necessary, in the court"s opinion, to make it enforceable while preserving the original intent of SXSW, and the remaining parts of these rules will remain in full force and effect. The Showcase will be governed by, and the Rules will be interpreted by, and enforced in accordance with, the laws of the State of Texas and applicable United States federal law, without regard to any conflicts of laws principles. The Showcase is void where prohibited by law. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Rules, the Showcase, the Expo, or any prize must be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Austin, Texas.
