    • Background
    • Image-37
    • Batley Festival is a small festival with big artistic ambitions. The Festival has just celebrated its 5th Birthday; taking place annually in early September, Batley Festival is volunteer run and receives funding from Kirklees Council and Creative Scene (the Creative People & Places for North Kirklees).

The programme is a mix of professional and community product, is free to attend and has a focus on participation. More recently, the festival has commissioned artists such as Walk the Plank (2015-Spellbound) and Periplum (2016-The Batley Picture Show) to collaborate with the community to create a mid-scale closing show for the festival.

The aim of the festival is to prove that small festivals can have a big impact by working with the diverse communities in the locality to create original and rooted artistic work.

The Festival has secured from Creative Scene a new Festival Commission budget of £15,000, and an arts  programming budget of £5,000+ for 2017 and aims to lever additional funds against these.

Batley Festival would now like to recruit a festival development worker to work with them on the next stage of their journey.
