To apply for an academic scholarship under the General Pershing Scholars Program, applicants must submit the following to the Pershing Foundation electronically through our online submission form.
1. Submit a copy of the student’s high school (freshmen applicants) or college (sophomore, junior, or senior applicants) transcripts. Applicants may submit their transcripts online or through the mail, and may be unofficial copies so long as they are produced through the college or university’s own system of record.
2. Take a U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine Corps physical fitness test and submit a scorecard specific to your branch of service. Civilian applicants should take a U.S. Army Physical Fitness Test and submit a DA Form 705. Scorecards should be signed by a member of the ROTC cadre.
3. Submit one Letter of Recommendation (LOR) from an college advisor, faculty member, employer, or Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadre member. Note - it is highly recommended that applicants use their P/R Advisor to write their LOR. Letters can be submitted online, via email, or through the mail by either the applicant or the individual making the recommendation. Application letters sent via email should be sent to Scholarships@PershingFoundation.org
4. Submit a 1,500 to 2,500 word essay on America's involvement in World War I. This topic is intentionally broad. Applicants are expected to select just one component of the United States' service in Europe. Examples may include amalgamation, a particular battle or campaign, or how America's presence on the battlefield so late in the war helped turn the tide for the allies. Primary and secondary sources should be cited using the appropriate citation guidelines outlined in the applicant’s own academic discipline (APA, CMS, MLA, etc.).
