Please submit the following documents in one PDF file with the following name: "LastName FirstName - 2017 NMUN•DC Staff Application".
1. Write a cover letter that (in no more than three pages):
Includes your reasons for applying for the volunteer staff position(s) of your choice and describe the most important contribution you can make in each position.
Lists any mentoring and/or leadership experiences you may have, in particular those acquired in NMUN positions. Please give examples.
If your goal is to continue in a position (D, AD, etc.) that you have held before, what is your motivation for applying to that position again? What do you want to change for this year?
If applying for Director: Describe how you plan to involve your AD, both throughout the preparation as well as at the conference.
If applying for Assistant Director (AD): Describe how you envision your cooperation with your Director.
Address Deadlines: although a volunteer program, NMUN•DC has many deadlines in order to meet posted dates for publishing resources to NMUN.org. What is your plan for meeting NMUN•DC deadlines? What will you do if you cannot meet a deadline?
Address working with others: as an educational conference, it is critical that NMUN volunteers are able to divide labor, manage conflict, and mentor others. Please describe your experience in these areas, particularly how you envision interacting with a dais partner and delegates.
Give the names and contact information for two or three references. At least one should be a non-NMUN volunteer.
2. Your current résumé (no more than two pages) that highlights your experiences, special skills, and/or unique characteristics. List any prior Model United Nations experience you have. Please detail countries represented and committees simulated as a delegate, as well as any experiences as chair, rapporteur, or conference staff.
3. On a separate page, briefly (no more than 250 words per scenario) address how you would handle the following hypothetical situation(s).
If applying for a Director or Assistant Director position, please answer both hypotheticals below:
A) During preparations before the conference, you and your dais partner worked together to devise an organizational plan for the dais during committee sessions. After the first few committee sessions, you realize that you and your dais partner are not following through on the plan as a team and you’re both getting very frustrated. How do you resolve the situation and attempt to get your dais back on track?
B) The committee has produced a number of working papers, and you and your dais partner both have several drafts to edit and return. However, you are having trouble finding time to edit; during formal session you are busy chairing committee, and during suspensions you are busy answering delegates' questions and updating the Speaker's List. A head delegate approaches you asking about a working paper that was submitted several hours ago, concerned about the delay in the paper being returned to delegates. How do you address this situation?
4. Provide a writing sample that is no more than 3 pages in length and provide an explanation for the purpose it was written. Previous NMUN Background Guide Topics will not suffice as a writing sample and will not be considered.
