Thank you for your interest in the 2020 Choreographer's Lab. The Choreographer's Lab is an eight-week session where artists of all abilities will be presented with tools to help them create meaningful dance works. Through this lab, choreographers will have the opportunity to create a piece that they will have the option of showcasing during a live performance at the end of the session.
The Choreographer's Lab is open to both new and experienced choreographers alike. The lab provides the freedom for experienced choreographers to try something new or to take their talents to the next level. For those just starting out in choreography, the lab provides guidance from experienced choreographers including key concepts in dance and improvisation.
NEW this year, choreographers are asked to choose between doing a piece about dance and technology or dance and human emotion and are encouraged to collaborate with another artist. Adding another choreographer, a musician, a visual artists, spoken word, and other mediums will elevate your work to a new level!
Lab hours are open at FWDC on Saturdays from 12pm to 1:30pm January 18, February 1, 15, and 29 of 2020. Choreographers are encouraged to work outside of lab hours to set choreography and clean their pieces. Lab hours provide minimal rehearsal time, but will allow choreographers to share their works in progress and get feedback from other lab participants. Key concepts and tools for creation will be given during the first four Saturday lab hours. Choreographers may ask for as much guidance as they would like during this time.
Dancers may be provided for choreographers if requested.
Performances of the pieces created in the lab will be held on March 14th at 2:30pm & 7:30pm, as well as March 15th at 2:30pm. Space in all performances is limited.
