While the term multicultural indicates the presence of many cultures, at North Park we stress being intercultural. By intercultural we mean the mutual exchange between people of different cultures and backgrounds. As Christians this matters because the image of God is found in each person and culture, so learning from those different than ourselves means learning about God.
A vital intercultural goal of CRUX is to go beyond the surface level of cultural similarities to seek deeper understanding and appreciation of where God is present in cultural expressions different from one’s own. Discovering the crux of cultural values takes us to the very heart of God found in one another.
The end result of this effort reflects the future kingdom of God where every tribe, nation and tongue will come together in holy worship and the glory of every ethnicity will be brought together to the assembly for the glory of God (Rev 7:9, 21:24).
As intentional community members of CRUX, we seek to model that future reality together in the common life, and thereby impact the wider North Park campus and community towards God’s desired reconciliation.
