You will work very hard, but you will feel great about what you’re doing for somebody else. At the end of every day, you will be dirty, tired, and deeply satisfied. We will organize a central location to pick you up and get you to the garden. You will, however, need to get yourself to the central location. Crew members will not be allowed to drive directly to the garden site.
We’re looking for students to participate in The Food Initiative's intensive, paid, work program this summer. What we do is we carefully select 2-3 teenagers from each of our local high schools and we put them to work growing organic fruits and vegetables for themselves, our local citizens, and for the poor and hungry at our local hunger relief organizations.
The program focuses heavily on rigorous work, on diversity, and on reaching out to others. By serving on a student crew, you and your team will grow and harvest fresh, organic vegetables. You will work very hard together. You will learn farming and business skills, experience nature, explore issues of hunger and community, and have fun.
